
Ralston held the position of Canada’s Minister of National Defense from 1940 to 1944 during World War II. He oversaw military operations and worked to strengthen Canada’s armed forces.
Ralston was also a soldier in World War I. He demonstrated bravery and leadership, and won the Distinguished Service Order and Bar, after being wounded in action. Ralston reached the rank of lieutenant colonel and commanded the 85th Battalion (Nova Scotia Highlanders).
