On July 2nd, 2019, 800+ people gathered to commemorate the 100th year anniversary of the closing of the Amherst Internment/Prisoner of War Camp. Officials from Germany and Ottawa traveled to the Armouries to take part in the event, as a way to acknowledge the prejudices Canadians of Eastern-European descent experienced during WW1. A Ukrainian priest was also present to say a blessing. To read more about the event, check out this article: Video showcases commemoration of Amherst’s First World War internment camp | SaltWire
