This homemade Christmas card was made for the wounded North Novie Pte. Joseph Alden Staples by a Nurse Gibson. She gifted it to him in hopes to lift his spirits after she assisted in amputating his leg months prior. Pte. Staples had been lying in a field for three days, assumed to be dead, when he was rescued and operated on.

The museum hosts many intimate WW2-era artifacts like this, donated by veterans and their families who had personal relationships with curator, Ray Coulson. This gives us the unique opportunity to tell stories that would be otherwise lost.
