The North Novie of the Week is Pte. Allan Roger Wardrope of Gull Lake, Saskatchewan!

Pte. Wardrope enlisted into the Canadian Armed Forces when he was 17 years old. He joined the North Nova Scotia Highlanders as a part of A Company and fought valiantly during their Normandy campaign.

Pte. Wardrope was captured along with 10 other North Novies while fighting in Caen. He was trapped inside a box car with his fellow soldiers for 23 days as they were transported to a POW camp, with very little food and water given to them every other day. Pte. Wardrope survived, and was liberated by the US Army in 1945.

He went on to have a family, and passed away on April 6th, 2009.

Thank-you, Pte. Wardrope, for your service!
